Temporary Mayo Game Land Rule Changes

Proposed Temporary Rule Changes

15A NCAC 10D .0249 Mayo Game Land in Person County

Reason for Proposed Action:

The proposed temporary amendment will remove the prohibition on the placement of docks, piers, and personal property on the shoreline or lakebed of Mayo Lake for more than 24 hours.

The prohibition was originally requested in October of 2024 by the landowner, Duke Energy, to comply with their USACE permit. In early 2026 Duke convened a small stakeholder team to discuss shoreline management at Mayo Lake and subsequently requested the WRC delay enforcement of the rule until an agreement could be reached and a modified rule could be proposed. A modified permanent replacement rule for shoreline management at Mayo Lake is expected in early 2027 prior to the expiration of this temporary rule.
