There are four species of grey-cheeked salamanders, all dark grey with light cheek patches and no red or white markings. They live in forested mountain habitats and are typically found under logs, rocks, or leaf litter. These salamanders feed on small invertebrates found on the forest floor. When threatened, they secrete a sticky, noxious substance to repel predators.
