The dwarf waterdog is a fully aquatic salamander that grows up to about 7.5 inches long. It has four toes on each foot, feathery external gills, and a flattened tail for swimming. Found in streams from Virginia to Georgia, it tends to avoid deeper river channels. This species feeds on small prey like worms, insects, and other aquatic invertebrates.
