Game Lands Maps

These maps have been compiled by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission as an aid to hunters, trappers, fishermen and other users of over two million acres of North Carolina game lands. Tract boundaries as pictured in these maps may not be precise but are approximations of actual locations. Game land users should identify boundaries on the ground posted with NCWRC signs. Be sure to refer to North Carolina Hunting Regulations to identify regulations and exceptions specific to game lands.

  • Butner-Falls of Neuse Game Land Designation Changes 2026 - The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA) recently removed and changed designations of portions of their property that have been enrolled in the Game Lands Program for decades. These changes are effective for this hunting season (Fall 2026). The development of NCDA’s new Umstead Beef Unit (UBU) and plans for future expansion have made these changes necessary for cattle and agricultural operations.  However, a significant acreage of NCDA property remains enrolled in the Butner-Falls of Neuse Game Land. 
    • Areas that Changed Designation
      • The 650-acre area east of Range Rd. and south of Roberts Chapel Rd. is now an Archery-Only Zone (formerly General ‘All Weapons’ Game Land).  The fields within this area (off Roberts Chapel Rd.) are excluded from hunting (62 acres).
      • The field complex at the end of West H Street (around the old Chicken Houses and across the road) is excluded from hunting (92 acres).
    • Areas Removed from Game Lands
      • The 1,224-acre area west of Range Rd., north of Old Oxford Hwy. (Old NC 75), and east of Cassam Rd. that was previously General ‘All Weapons’ Game Land, has been removed. 
      • The 152-acre Archery Zone south of Old Oxford Hwy., between Veazey Rd. and Central Avenue (behind the Central Regional Hospital), has been removed.
      • The area at the intersection of Range Rd. and Old Oxford Hwy. and the area northeast of Lake Holt Rd. and west of Old Oxford Hwy. that were previously Safety Zones (604 acres) have been removed and are no longer accessible to the public.

  • Big Bradley Falls Trail at Green River Game Land - The waterfall and the posted areas adjacent to the waterfall and overlook along the Big Bradley Falls Trail have been designated as a Temporary Restricted Zone by the Commission until further notice. Entry into the Zone is prohibited without first obtaining written approval from the Commission by filling out and signing a Memorandum of Agreement (Outfitter or Individual Agreement) and emailing it to gamelands@ncwildlife.gov. The signed Agreement will be returned to you via email within 5 business days. For questions about the Agreement, please call 919-707-0150 or email gamelands@ncwildlife.gov. Anyone who accesses the area without prior written approval could be charged with a Class 3 Misdemeanor, which carries a fine of $25 and additional court costs.
     
  • Big Hungry Dam at Green River Game Land - as of 8/9/2021 the area of the game land has been posted with “Danger” and “No Trespassing” signs. Please exercise caution while in the Big Hungry River especially upstream of the dam and for your safety stay out of areas that are posted against trespassing.
