The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) welcomes Commissioner Zachary (Zack) Benfield to its governing board. Benfield was appointed to fill an unexpired term of Commissioner John Stone by Speaker of the House Destin Hall and will serve until June 30, 2027. Benfield was sworn in today during the NCWRC Commission meeting at the agency’s Raleigh headquarters.
Benfield was born and grew up in Caldwell County. An avid hunter and angler, Benfield says he enjoys exploring North Carolina’s natural landscapes with his wife, Sarah, and their son and daughter. He’s a graduate of Caldwell Community College and received an arborist certification with a utility-specialist focus.
“I’ve built my life and career around the outdoors and the community I call home,” said Benfield. “I’m passionate about seeing younger generations grow their connection to the outdoors and committed to supporting healthy, thriving wildlife populations for the future.”
As part of its statutory authority, the NCWRC governing board establishes policies and regulations governing hunting, fishing and boating activities in North Carolina.
