What Is Green Growth?

The Green Growth Toolbox is a technical assistance tool designed to help communities conserve high quality habitats as communities and developers continue to build new homes, workplaces, and shopping centers.

The toolbox will help your community plan for growth in a way that will conserve your natural assets—fish, wildlife, plants, streams, forests, fields, and wetlands.

Technical Assistance

NCWRC staff provide free technical assistance on conservation data and maps, plans, ordinances, development review, rezonings, and other conservation planning issues.

Green Growth Toolbox resources have been used by many communities in NC.

  • The Town of Davidson created a Rural Area Plan using Green Growth Toolbox recommended conservation data and habitat conservation recommendations. This plan resulted in an action-oriented conservation plan for Davidson’s Rural Area and led to changes in their development ordinances for their Rural Area.

  • Planning Tools for Pittsboro Project: The Town of Pittsboro brought together residents of Pittsboro to make recommendations about a conservation overlay and the Model Natural Resources Conservation Ordinance. These recommendations guided policies in Pittsboro’s Future Land Use Plan.

  • Chatham Comprehensive Plan: Recommended conservation data sets were used to guide Chatham’s Future Land Use & Conservation Map.

  • Durham Comprehensive Plan: Green Growth Toolbox Habitat Recommendations were used in Durham’s Environmental Protection Policies.
